This is my son's third year running the pinewood derby. 2004- Last in every heat he ran. 2005- Last in every heat he ran. The look on his face after each last place finish was devastating. He has won the Cub Scout Spirit Award both years, which eased the pain a bit, but not much. With two years of failure under our belts I downloaded your book and we set about building his car using your techniques. We followed just about every allowable tip from your book. I have to admit I was very skeptical that your ideas were going to work, because I had read a little bit about building pinewood cars the past two years and you see the results. Well, race day came and he was excited about racing his "ultimate" car. Because of our past experiences, I cautioned him not to expect too much. We waited anxiously until his first heat. The starting pin dropped and his car was the first to the finish! The look on his face was priceless. We could have stopped there and gone home and it would have been a great day. I told him not to get too excited, it was only one heat. Next heat, first again. Heat 3, he won again! Now, I had to tell myself not to get too excited! Heat #4, first place. The fifth and final heat against the fastest cars from the other three dens, same result, he won. He was so excited. He wound up with 3 trophies that day, Scout Spirit, 1st Place in Bear Den, and The Scout Grand Prix 1st place trophy!!!!

I wanted to write to say how impressed we are with your pinewood derby products. I spent over 30 hours reviewing every web site that I could Google selling pinewood derby products. I felt your site had what would result in the fastest car. I had already bought a "Speed Tips" book locally for 16 bucks. How poorly written that book was. It was worthless. I bought your Ultimate Speed Secrets book because your site sounded like you knew what you were talking about.

I already knew how to build a slow Derby car. Last year, my daughter and I built the second to the slowest car out of nearly 500 Indian Princess Competitors. The slowest car's wheel fell off and didn't finish, we were only ahead of that! My daughter cried, I was embarrassed, even realizing learning how to lose was important too.

This year we built 2 cars. One was the issue 7 dollar kit to be raced in the "stock green 5 oz and under class". The other car, pink, in the Extreme unlimited category at 10 oz, was your #140 Super Wedge with raised wheel, #599 Pro RS Racing Wheels, #700 Lead Wire, #750 Bullet Lube, and mainly the "Ultimate Speed Secrets" book.

Our car was so fast, it was incredible. In a race against our Nation of 900 girls, my daughter's car took FIRST PLACE! In the final race, we were a foot in front of the competition! Others couldn't believe it. We couldn't either. From near last place to first place in a group of 900 kids! Wow! And the only thing that was different was the parts and info I secured from your web site. We beat a car by two lengths, which had beaten the entire scout group a few months earlier! Not bad for a nine year old girl!

Thank you for you book. We went to districts, last week and placed first out of 152 racers, He didn't even lose one heat!!!

In the final championship round even the officials were commenting at how his car was "smokin' fast". My stepson was now being asked the details about his car. He could tell anybody, with confidence, about each and every part that made his car go fast. The overall race official came up to me and asked how much of the car did he build? I told her that "I engineered it, we both designed it and he built it". She smiled and said that we must make a good team.

Just a quick note to say thanks for all the tips. Great Book. Last year my Wolf Cub Cody entered his 1st derby and won the craftsmanship award. His car did not win a race though. This year He took 1st place in his pack AWESOME. Cody was so excited he even beat the webelos...Cody is a bear cub this year. I enclosed a few photos of "greased Lightning" this was Cody's design and he did all the work including polishing his own axles. I only assisted with the scroll saw and drill for the weights. How awesome watching his face light up as he won every race.

Just wanted to drop you a note to let you know our progress this year. If you will recall, my Tiger won 1st place last year for his den and 3rd in District.

We followed your tips again for this season. It was unreal! My now-Wolf cub, Cole, won 1st again for his den (never losing a race) and 2nd for the pack. After reviewing the video footage of the pack race, it was evident that there was an error in judging two of the heats, and Cole should have been awarded 1st place.

The best part of the day was when I won first place in the parents' race!!! The parents' race is even a bigger rivalry than the boys' race. I was the only woman competing. My ugly car (dubbed "the cheese"), easily beat the competition. It was hilarious. The wives and mothers in attendance were delighted when it was a female who took the title, leaving the men baffled about how a girl could have thwarted their best efforts.

District is in March. We will have three times as many entries this year, so the competition will be tough, but I know Cole's car will do well using your advice. It's nice to know we can do so much to enhance our cars' performance without breaking any rules (as some have tried to do before). As I've said before, you're a genius!

I wanted to thank you for your tips in building our "Ultimate Pinewood Derby Racer". This was my sons first Pinewood Derby and we faithfully followed your "Ultimate Speed Secrets" book. He raced in 10 races and won hands down in every heat, taking 1st in his Den and the Pack. His pack had over 50 cars entered! His car was a modified wedge design with an extended wheel base and raised wheel, using Super H Speed Wheels and Thunderbolt Speed Axles. We also used the new Bullet Lube. My son was really nervous for his first ever pinewood derby heat not knowing how his car would perform against the others. After the first race his was full of excitement and confidence. Taking pictures for every race it was apparent that his car pulled ahead in the first foot and never slowed down. Some races he was ahead by 1/2 car length in the first two feet. In the end, all the parents were wondering how this car was so fast.

Just wanted to drop you a line thanking you for the fine tips on pinewood car building. A father and his 9 year old son came to me with a car design concept of building a car that looked like a grandfather clock. Since own a clock repair business it seemed logical to them to ask me for some advice. I did not want to let them down so by researching the web I found your site and purchased your download of ultimate tips. I presented all the secrets to them and let them use my shop & tools. We applied all the tips we could allowed by the local club rules. We worked four nights two hours each visit and presto! We had a very cool race car! We all learned some physics, and father and son learned how to operate a miniature lathe, drill press, dremel, painting sanding, lettering, etc. I saw some wonderful father son bonding, and I was rewarded with new friends and a genuine good feeling inside for having been a part of this fun project. Race day came and our car raced many times over a three hour period determined by a computer program. Our second race they announced we had set a new track record for the club. Not one car we raced against beat us!

Using your pine car derby suggestions in your little 113 page book my granddaughter Jordan swept last Saturday's Y M C A boys/girls pine car derby races. Each car had to race eight times and there were 48 contestants in the second grade category. We owe you one. We bought some Bullet Lube and ran in our District race yesterday. What I noticed with the lube is that if you take a wheel and prepared axle w/o any lube it spins for an average of 17 seconds for 5 spins. Add Hardware Store lube and it spins for 24 seconds. Use Bullet Lube and it spins for 37 seconds!

Our car was the Overall Winner in a field of over 200+ scouts who qualified by being in the top 3 of their Pack's Race. We won by a wide margin, breaking the host Pack's track record by .02 seconds

We had our Pack Pinewood Derby last Saturday. My three children each entered a car in their respective divisions: Tiger, Bear, and Other (Family). We placed first in all three divisions.

In fact, out the 89 cars in the Derby, our cars finished 1st, 2nd, and 5th overall. That was pretty cool. And the kids did most of the work (with my guidance and assistance of course). We also discussed the concepts of gravity, potential energy, center of gravity, friction, and aerodynamics in the process so they would understand why we were doing the things we were doing during the construction phase.

Hey David,

Just a quick note to let you know that Stevie won his packs Pinewood Derby for the second year in a row again going undefeated in all 12 heats he raced and again all the credit goes to Derby Champ and your speed tips manual and products.

Just wanted to drop you a note. We bought your book and followed each and every step to the best of our ability. The book was fantastic and very well written. We were able to follow each step with your wonderful descriptions and photos. We had 2 sons with cars in the derby and went into the race hoping for first and second place. Thank you. Just though you might enjoy this. A very happy and excited eight-year-old just had the time of his life this evening. After a rather disappointing outcome in his first pinewood derby last year, the tide turned this year as his racer first won the qualifying Den race off and then won the Pack title going away. Aside from the usual tips about axle and wheel prep, the tip that really seemed to make the most difference was locating the maximum weight to the rear of the car - really exciting to see his car seem to jump ahead as it reached the bottom of the ramp and transition to the horizontal phase. The only car to give him a close race was left behind in the second run with reversed lanes

After my son took 2nd place out of 50+ cars in 2005 using only your free tips, we decided to buy your book and "step up our program in 2006." We also decided to build cars for my younger son and daughter to race in the Siblings Division.

It's safe to say we stepped up our program. My son took first place in the Scouts division beating almost 60 cars. My younger son took first in the Siblings Division beating about 30 cars. My daughter took second place in the Sibling Division after losing to her brother in a head-to-head championship race-off. First Place, First Place and Second Place!!!!! What an exciting day for our team!!!!!

Not only did we sweep the top spots, we did it dominating fashion. Our winning Sibling Division car had the fastest time of all 80+ cars by .03 seconds; second fastest was my daughter. The closest time of any other competitor was .05 seconds slower. This is a very impressive margin considering it is a 3.15 second track.

Although the race day was exciting, the real fun is building the cars together. My kids understand the concept of friction reduction and know why we do each of your tips. They are also gaining valuable experience working with various tools themselves.

I had to write a quick note to say Thank You for your advice as well as the components in the construction of our Pinewood Derby car. This was the first experience for my son Sam and my first experience since my Scouting days some 30 years ago. We had a lot of fun building our car, strategizing over how to make it go fast, and look cool.

By race day we were prepared and a little nervous, not knowing how we'd stack up against the other 70 cars and years of experience. I'm glad to report that Sam's car won first place. I'm also pleased to inform you that Sam's car set the Track Record for the day. Sam was very proud of that, noting he "beat all the older kids!"

We had a great time building and racing Sam's car. In fact we're already thinking about next years entry. We'll be in touch then. Thanks again.

My son Ben, a Tigercub, had his first Pinewood Derby yesterday and he
finished 2nd among all of the Tigercubs in the Pack! We used your
ultimate speed secrets book to tweak the car and I am convinced that
using your tips are what made our experience so successful.

My son and I had a great time designing and building the car together
and we both learned a lot about the process. Watching my son at the
event, I am convinced this experience will be with him always.

My first year Tiger Cub won 1st place in his den. We then went to his pack finals and ended up in a 4 way tie for first place. We had a race-off and ended up taking the 1st place trophy for the whole pack
of 50 plus cubs!

I can't tell you how valuable your book and advice were to me in creating this great memory. It was a wonderful day.

I'll rework the axles for our district race in March which is why I ordered your Pro Body Tool!

This is the third year that my son Eric has been in the Pinewood derby. Our first 2 years were not very good usually finishing near the bottom. This year I bought your book Pinewood Derby Speed Secrets. Eric and I followed the steps in the book and what a difference. Eric's car was in 12 races and won all 12. Eric is 9 and I was glad that we were able to follow the steps and work on the car together.

Just wanted to let you guys know that all of the supplies and book that I ordered went a long way into the final outcome of our den races. After my daugher lost miserably at our Awana Pine Wood Derby last year I went in search of some "professional advice" on car building.

I downloaded your "Ultimate Speed Secrets" manual and also bought your book.

The pictures and illustrations were top notch and the kids had a lot of fun picking from the designs in the back of the book and working together to build the cars.

This year I had both a daughter and a son that built cars.

We race single elimination. The first car was in a group of approximately 40 cars in that age group. The second car was in a group of approximately 150 cars.

Neither car lost a race all night!!!

Wow, I can't believe how fast those cars are when we followed the tips in your book. Both cars were within 0.04 seconds of each other on the track.

The kids (and their dad) will remember this night for a long time.

What a blast!! Thank you for a great book.

Dear Derby Champ,

I want to thank you tremendously. We had our pack derby on Friday night, and well thanks to some of your tips and some Bullet Lube we placed first in the pack. We didn't even come close to loosing a race. It seemed as though other cars were slowing down at the end of the track and we were gaining speed. .So thank you again I don't think I've seen my son this happy in along time.

Hi I just wanted you to know that we purchased your speed products built the ultimate car and won at our meet. Next we go to the district race. We used the quick start design and it really worked well,I was so happy to see my son with the first place trophy. We beat the next fastest car by more than 2 car lengths and my son built the whole car,the only thing I did was drill the hole for the lead.Just wanted to say thank you and I will let you know how we do at the district race.

Let me start with the story from last year's 2006 derby. My son and I worked so very hard making a car for the races. Long story short we attended the races, a couple of 3rd place and mostly last place finishes in the heats. It was heart breaking to watching my 7 year old son start to cry because we had tried so hard that year to make a fast car.

Fast forward to this year, the 2007 races. We are preparing our boxed car for the races when my son decides that he does not want to participate because of his experience last year. I had almost forgot the heartbreak he felt. So with only 5 days before the event I decide to do a little search on the web and found your site. I got the help and products I needed. Needless to say he won every heat, 1st place in the Wolves and 1st place overall. He is so proud of his car. Now on to the district competition, we will let you know how it turns out. I may be ordering a couple more products to prepare for it.

We just won our pack tiger race, my son's first race ever. To top that, we won fastest in the pack beating the older kids with the fastest average time of 2.6150! So, it's off to district. This year I helped my grandson compete in his cub scout pack PWD race. He set the track record for the day, and then beat that record two more times during the day. They also had an unlimited open class division. I handily took first place in this division, with no one approaching me in any race. We used your ideas, supplies, and bullet lube. Your instructions are implementing basic rules of physics, and they work. We just needed someone like you to bring them to our attention.

Just wanted to write and thank you for all your help. We followed the instructions in your book and used many of the tools and products on your site. The night before the Pinewood Derby, at the early weigh-in, we knew we had something special. His car was easily coming in first against all the cars it raced in all age groups. I told my wife, "David Meade is a genius." My son was so excited; he could barely sleep that night. The next day he took first place with no problems. His car beat the competition by at least a couple of feet in each race. Accelerating at the bottom of the track, it drew many "oohs","aahs" and "wows". John was so proud to win the first place trophy. Looking at the times, his car appears to have been the 3rd fastest all the Cub Scout cars. A couple of older Webelos who were brothers had faster cars. I could not figure out what they were doing different. In addition to his first place trophy, he also won the award for "Fastest Looking" car using a variation of your Talon design. On to District!
